Abstract
This paper provides a synthesis of the recent patterns of industrial activity at the level of Spain's autonomous communities, aswell as an empirical analysis of the external factors that favor industrial growth. The results provide evidence of the positiveeffect produced by diversity and industrial competition within a territory and of the negative impact of specialization.
