Abstract

The present study analyses the content of the ILO Home Work Convention (No. 177). In particular, it deals with the purpose of “making this category of workers visible” and, thus, contributing to the elimination of the informal economy, and promoting equal treatment with other employed persons. It is clear that the provisions of Convention No. 177 contain both impressive potential for adaptation to national legal systems, as well as obvious gaps for its effective application, especially related to self-employed workers and the technological element. Following this reflection, the possibility of reassessing the situation and developing a soft law instrument that is in line with the new relations in the workplace is raised
