Abstract
The article offers an analysis and some consideraciones about populist phenomena of the XXI century, which stregth lies substancially in the discourse by the main political leader and very precise topics. In this respect, recently elected Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s political and discursive trajectory is particularly interesting, as he’s been acclaimed for his leftist positions in spite of the transformation his discourse has undergone throughout his candidacy attempts (in 2006, 2012 and 2018). This work therefore analyses his 2018 electoral campain opening and closing speeches, underlining the typically populist strategies and dispositives employed and the traits –at times even conservative– in his words
