[Biostratigraphical and palaeoenvironmental characterisation of the Lower Cretaceous (Berriasian-Barremian) of the Macizo de Garraf (Coastal Catalan Mountains)]. The Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous (Kimmeridgian-Barremian) from the Garraf Mountains (NE Spain) comprises seven stratigraphic units: Dolomies of Les Agulles Fm., Upper Dolomies of Garraf Fm., Limestones of La Pleta Fm., Limestones and Marls of Els Mangraners Fm., Limestones of Polacos Fm., Limestones and mares of Artoles Fm and La Mola Unit. The stratigraphic succession was studied from the points of view of lithostratigraphy, micropaleontology and biostratigraphy (charophytes and larger foraminifera). It includes a set of lower units, raging from the Late Kimmeridgian to the Early Valanginian. They were separated from the overlying Barremian-Aptian series by a stratigraphic gap with a hiatus including most of the Valanginian and the whole Hauterivian. This situation is alike that of the northern margin of the Maestrat Basin. The lower units show a continuous and micropaleontologically well-characterised record from the Upper Berriasian, with the charophyte Globator mai-llardii nurrensis, to the Lower Valanginian, with the orbitolinid Valdanchella miliani. The Barremian units, with a thickness of up to 500 m, represent a transgressive sucession which passes from lacustrine with charophytes (Porochara sp.) to margino-litoral and photic platform facies dominated by the orbitolinid Palorbitolina lenticularis facies
