Abstract

Skin infections are caused by undesirable microorganisms which alter the skin and cause a local immune response that may have systemic effects. The main causal agents are bacteria, viruses and fungi, the epidemiological characteristics of each one define their mechanisms of transmission. The clinical manifestations are varied, but there are typical lesions that can be useful for diagnosis. Additional tests help to confirm the initial diagnosis. Treatment is based on the eradication of the microorganism, whenever possible, and to avoid potential complications.
