Abstract

Introduction The acute monoarthritis, defined as the swelling of a single joint during less than 6 weeks of evolution, may be the clinical presentation of several diseases. Differential diagnosis For differential diagnosis, it is important to carry out an appropriate anamnesis and physical examination, as well as support in various complementary tests, specially the analysis of synovial fluid. Septic arthritis is of special importance, due to the high morbidity and mortality associated. It requires an early initiation of antibiotic treatment.
