Abstract

Introduction: The Strategic Plan for Pediatrics and Neonatology values the clinical psychologist figure in the psychological care of families and professionals in Neonatal Units of level 3. The objective of this project is to describe the opinion of premature newborns’ parents about the need for peripartum psychological care, as well as satisfaction in the care received during admission. Method: Cross-sectional observational study through anonymous surveys delivered in the follow-up of prematures. Descriptive analysis of sociodemographic variables. The results were analyzed descriptively using STATAv14. Results: 119 surveys were analyzed (88% answered by mothers). 77% were prematures ≥33 weeks, 20% weighed <1500 g and 25% were twins. 65% of parents felt anguish before birth and 65% associated this anguish with prematurity. 47% considered positive the help of a psychologist during admission, the more the greater the prematurity (p = 0.017). 8% consulted with a private psychologist after delivery. Overall, the attention received during admission was satisfactory by 91%. Conclusions: The condition of prematurity is a situation of maximum somatopsychic vulnerability. It requires a multidisciplinary approach to identify situations of suffering and alterations in family affective bonds. Early detection and care is a priority. The clinical psychologist in Neonatology is perceived as necessary to attend a highly specialized clinic. It is a necessity of care not covered at the current time.
