Abstract

This communication aims to promote reflection both the supports and the barriers to learning and participation that students with ASD have encountered in their academic career in ordinary schools, from secondary education to university. A qualitative methodology has been adopted, and from a biographical-narrative approach, an account of one student’s academic path has been constructed. The aim is to give a voice to all the people identified as relevant in this process. The results and conclusions focus on the facilitators and barriers in the cultures, policies and practices of the centres, both at the pre-university stage and at university. We pay close attention to the key factors in the transition between educational stages and to the social participation as a central dimension.
