Resum

There are many references about predicitive-urban-growth models using complex tools as cellular automata, multi-agent based models, statistical techniques, etc. However, we have not found much less references to urban areas in the Mediterranean region. In this paper we present a predictive urban growth model based on cellular automata. This model has been developed for a city of the Mediterranean area: Granada Metropolitan Area. First, an urban growth dynamic cartography has been elaborated for the 1977-2003 period, considering different categories (residential sparse, residential compact, commercial and industrial). Then we have implemented the model in IDRISI KILIMANJARO GIS, and we have calibrated it using ex-post simulations for the period 1984-1999 that allow us to compare the real situation with the results of our model.
