Abstract

This project tries to analyze the Conference on the future of Europe from the framework of European citizenship and the long-awaited democratic impulse that it is intended for. In this vein, we will briefly review the emergence and evolution of the concepts of European citizenship and democratic deficit, closely linked to the harmonious development of a European democracy that currently plays a leading role in the new European course. We will present some of the ideas that emerge in the European sentiment and in the citizenship that, in a diligent way, has revealed some ideas and contributions of absolute practical importance for the subsequent development of the whole. Rescuing old federalist and constitutionalist aspirations, European citizens are currently advocating a federal reconstruction of the European Union and the development of a new constitutional text that informs a true harmonization of the whole and does not allow the integration process to be optimally completed.
