Abstract

One of these transformations that have innovated education are the new educational modalities, one of them is e-learning; and to optimize the processes that are developed in virtual environments, the implementation of Learning Analytics arises, which consists of measuring, collecting, analyzing, and reporting on all the elements that reflect the actions of users in virtual learning environments. For the present thesis work, three publications in journals with impact in the JCR (Journal Citation Reports) index and seven conference articles have been selected. These papers are developed on the hypothesis that virtual tutoring processes can be improved with the use of Learning Analytics. The articles that make up this thesis present works that analyze the status of the use of Learning Analytics in teaching practice; evaluate the technological acceptance of teachertutors in the use of virtual learning environments and their interest in the application of Learning Analytics, and explain, through a model, the relationship between the application of LA in virtual tutoring and the learning performance of students. The results show that it is possible to improve the virtual tutoring process in e-learning programs using Learning Analytics, considering the purposes of LA, the acceptance of the use of virtual environments, and its relationship with the level of interest in applying LA in teaching practice. It can be concluded that it is important that the tutorial function performed by the tutor is based on learning analytics using strategies such as motivation, mentoring, communication, feedback, and learning design to positively impact student performance.
