Resumo

The aim of this study was to analyse the correlation between the throwing velocity in elite male handball players and the bilateral strength-speed test in the bench press. The sample was composed of 24 elite handball players (n=24; age 23.0±5.2 years). They took the repeated sets of bench press (20, 40, 60 kg) (PB) and the standing throw speed test (VL) with an official handball ball from the 7-metre line registered by a radar gun. The results obtained show statistically significant relationships between VL and the peak torque in PB with a 40 kg load (r =0.411), the peak power in PB with a 60 kg load (r =0.468), the maximum velocity of movement of the load in PB with 60 kg (r =0.494).
