Abstract

High performance athletes’ commitment in their respective sports disciplines arousedreactions from many public institutions and governments regarding the promotion ofacademic conciliation for athlete students. Given that athletes cannot dedicate their timeexclusively to their sports career, some universities have already developed specificacademic programs that support the duality of university education and sports training.These programs allow students to attend official competitions throughout the academicyear.The present article describes the university programs followed by 27Spanish AthleticsNational Team athletes that competed in the Olympic and Paralympic games in Tokyo2020, celebrated in the summer of 2021. They’re 27sportsman and women that, inaddition to being leaders in their disciplines both nationally and internationally, havechosen to follow a Health Sciences program at university, such as Medicine, PhysicalTherapy, Nursery, Psychology, Chiropody or Physical Activityand SportScience.
