Resum

This paper analyses the characteristics of the specific care centres for homeless people in Spain in recent years, and the profile of the individuals who frequent these centres. In addition, one of the main objectives of the study is to analyse the influence of different public benefits on the group, especially the most widespread benefit among the group, the Minimum Insertion Income (Renta Mínima de Inserción). To this end, we first examine the characteristics of the centres that offer restoration and accommodation services for the homeless, and then present the profile of the group of homeless people in Spain in two different years, 2005 and 2012. The databases, the Survey on Centres and Services for the Homeless and the Survey on Homeless People, both from the Spanish National Statistics Institute, have allowed us to carry out a complete analysis. The study concludes with an analysis of the profile of homeless people who receive the Minimum Insertion Income, and the determinants of the receipt of this assistance.
