Leyendas orales en las culturas y dialectos de Abruzzo (Italia)

Resum

This thesis transcribes, edits, translates and studies a corpus of oral legends from Abruzzo (Italy), recorded by me or by my collaborators between 2007 and 2017; they are presented in the language in which they were recorded (sometimes in Abruzzo dialect, sometimes in Italian), and in their translation into English. The first aim of this thesis is to recover and reclaim the treasure of Abruzzo's traditional legends and their vehicular dialect, since it is a much neglected repertoire, of which there are no editions of academic quality, nor solvent scientific monographs; and to transcend and overcome, at the same time, the editorial conventions (neither regular nor systematic, until now) that hinder the knowledge and recognition of the Abruzzo dialect. The second objective is to explore systematic and precise working methods applicable to transcriptions, translations and editions of oral literature, which is another area that requires more precise approaches and better research. The last objective is to make the oral literature and popular culture of Abruzzo known to Spanish-speaking readers, and to contribute to the literary studies that link Italy with Spain and the Hispanic world. To this end, the thesis includes a dense comparative study of an Abruzzo legend, Dancing with the Devil, which has been intensively documented in many Spanish and Portuguese-speaking territories, particularly in Brazil.
