Abstract

The literature on support for renewable electricity has put an excessive emphasis on the abstract comparison between the different instruments, usually disregarding their design elements. In contrast, several studies have shown that the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of those instruments depends on their specific design. The aim of this work it to comparatively analyse the design elements of the main instruments for the promotion of renewable electricity (feed-in tariffs and tradable green certificates) according to the different efficiency aspects.
