Abstract

The Spanish labor market has shown remarkable resilience during the Covid-19 crisis. This crisis accentuates some of the structural trends that have already been conditioning its operation: technological changes, new patterns of work organization and job supply, population aging and sectorial and occupational reallocation of employment. Along with this, a new labor reform has substantially modified the modalities of labor contracting and new legislative initiatives are announced to modernize employment policies. In this article these events are documented and some suggestions are advanced for the evaluation of the reform and calls for the adaptation of the institutional configuration of the Spanish labor market to the new macro and socioeconomic context that seems to arise from the indicated structural tendencies.
