Zusammenfassung

In this paper, a novel concept of a rotative actuator that minimizes its power and energy consumption for precision positioning applications is presented. The device is based in the use of potential magnetic energy storage between permanent magnet facing with opposing magnetization polarities. When combined with an electromagnetic active control and stabilization system, the rotor of the device is able to switch between stable equilibrium positions in a fast way with a minimal fraction of the power and energy consumption of a traditional electric motor. A theoretical model is presented, and performance calculations have been done supported by detailed finite element model (FEM) results. A prototype has been designed to operate as an actuator for a filterwheel application in a satellite. As the results show, the device has the potential to provide a power consumption saving up to 90% and an energy consumption saving up to 78% with respect to previous similar developments. At the same time, the actuator switches between 8 stable positions in a fast an accurate way.
