Abstract

Louis Ombrédanne (1871-1956) a Parisian surgeon has contributed in medical science with three innovations: an inhalator or vaporizer, the syndrome pallor-hyperthermia after surgery, and the surgical technique (orchidopexy transscrotal). As years passed this three eponymous have been forgotten. The contributions in plastic and orthopaedic surgery of Louis Ombrédanne are remembered by surgical specialist. The syndrome pallor-hyperthermia is well defined in modern times by the term malignant hyperthermia. Also, Ombrédanne vaporizer used frequently during the early years of the XX century has been replaced with new technology used in inhalation anaesthesia and with the taking up of anaesthesiologist as specialists. Louis Ombrédanne must be remembered as an excellent scientist in relation with surgery and anaesthesia.
