Abstract

The discovery of the music of Los amantes de Teruel by Juan Eugenio Hartzenbusch allows us to contemplate this romantic drama from a global perspective. The only musical moment of the play is located at the point of maximum dramatic intensity and features Zulima, one of the female characters which Hartzenbusch introduced to the legend of the lovers of Teruel. The music reinforces the pleasure of revenge that emanates from the author’s verses while reflecting, with subtlety and delicacy, the oriental origin of Zulima.
