Abstract

Accordingto Riquer's suggestion (1955), Cervantes was acquainted to Luque Fajardo's dramatized treatise, Fiel desengaño contra la ociosidad y los juegos (Madrid 1603). Now we may add new evidence of Cervantes’ inspiration in Rinconete y Cortadillo. That short novel was presumably based on a combination of contemporary readings: Zapata's Miscelánea, Cristóbal de Chaves' Romances de germanía (1609) and Luque’s book. Such picture can also be completed with some more recognizable fajardian elements in El celoso extremeño.
