Resumo

The discovery of a series of inscriptions following of archaeological excavations has revealed the existence of an epigraphy of honour in the Late Antique period in which the absolute protagonists are women, specifically, imperial women or those related to the imperial family of the moment. These inscriptions include, on the one hand, the double inscription on the base of the statue dedicated to the first empress of the Eastern Roman Empire, Aelia Eudoxia. On the other hand, there are also the preserved remains of an inscription that adorned the walls of the church, considered to be the jewel of Proto-Byzantine architecture, and whose benefactor was the patrician Anicia Juliana. The intention of this article is to expose these Late Antique inscriptions and, above all, to present the historical circumstances that gave rise to these epigraphic texts: allowing some women to allude to their power in the most visible and lasting way.
