Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic systemic condition that associates both dermatological and rheumatological inflammatory manifestations. From a dermatological point of view, it usually causes erythematous scaly well-delimited plaques, located at extension surfaces. It is considered as a genetic disease, in which different environmental factors also play an important role. Diagnosis is based on the clinical appearance of the lesions, although skin biopsy can help to confirm the diagnosis. Mild to moderate psoriasis can be treated with topical therapies, including corticosteroids, retinoids, D vitamin derivatives, calcineurin inhibitors or their combinations. In severe psoriasis, systemic treatment including phototherapy, classical therapies (methotrexate, cyclosporine, retinoids) or biological treatments will be needed. In this review, we will update the management of psoriasis and we will discuss the main erythematous scaly diseases.
