Abstract

Nowadays, not only the increase of the incidence of the Lyme disease but also the lack of a truly effective treatment makes the prevention of borreliosis fundamental for the public health. In this review different points are being addressed, still under investigation, for the development of vaccines in reservoirs, being the most promising the protein of Isac’s vector and the proteins of the bacteria BBA52 and OspC’s membrane. Furthermore, it is studied how it would affect the reduction of vectors to the control of the disease through the use of acaricides and the control of populations of hosts and reservoirs. Finally, it is exposed the evolution of the vaccine in humans OspA analyzing the reasons of its failure with the aim to find a new effective and multivalent vaccine in a near future.
