Abstract

Most of the population affected by the Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) lack economic resources, and consequently, their treatment is considered a non-profitable market. This fact reduces investment in R&D for new drugs, with simple dosage and low price, required in these areas. Thanks to the WHO’s effortsand donations from several entities, a better regulation of these issues has been achieved, despite not being still enough. These diseases could be controlled, even eradicated, if they were given the importance they actually have. The resources needed to treat these diseases are held by developed countries, so cooperationamongthese countries and the affected ones is essential. Thus, the NTDs’ real prevalence is not reflected since it provides an image of poverty for the country. It has beenproved that investing in health education and preventionwould cut down on the expenses to make the access to quality drugs easier.
