Abstract

Antitumoral virotherapy means the use of attenuated strains of different kind of virus, measles virus in this case, to attack different kinds of cancers. This is a very new and promising field of research. Measles virus is very prevalent in our society, in fact a very high percentage of the population has been even vaccinated against it or infected, so there´s a very high immunity. This brings a huge advantage avoiding transmission from the security point of view. Also, through genetic engineering it´s possible the modification of wild measles virus strains to enhance tumor cells selectivity, causing no harm on normal tissues, while evading antiviral human immunity. For now, this research field is still being developed, but it offers many possibilities in no small cells lung cancer, ovarian cancer, pleural mesothelioma, cholangyocarcinoma, glioblastoma and multiple myeloma.
