Abstract
Yellow fever, whose name refers to jaundice that symptomatic patients suffer, is a notifiable viral disease transmitted by mosquitoes. It causes a high number of epidemic outbreaks, mainly in Africa, and it can be prevented with just a single dose of its 17D vaccine. When someone becomes infected a symptomatic treatment is required. Although most of the time it is an asymptomatic disease, some patients may show up general symptoms such as fever or a headache in the first period, which also is the most difficult moment to diagnose it. Later on, they might show up choluria and jaundice easily diagnosed using an ELISA test, in a final period they may also suffer a multiple organ failure. Due to the fact that it is an endemic disease, many countries had carried out many sanitary prevention programmes, transmission prevention programmes and vaccine campaigns. The immunity of those who travel to risk countries must be taken into account, mostly missionaries and servicemen.
