STH (Soil Transmitted Helminthiasis) are a health problem worldwide. They take part of the neglected tropical diseases, especially affecting children living in impoverished areas all around the world. These illnesses are related with malnutrition, since this condition aggravates helminth infections and vice versa. What’s more, they are associated with physical and cognitive growth retardation in children. As the incidence of these diseases is higher in Southeast Asia, we will develop our project in a selected population of this continent, particularly in Barangay Bayog in Philippines. The main objective of this project is to carry out a reduction in the incidence of these diseases, combining deworming with the development of socio-sanitary measures at a local level. Our study sample will be children in their first year of schooling, whom will be administered albendazole or mebendazole during two years. Throughout this period the project will be evaluated by certifying if implemented habits are met and by analyzing nutritional degree: the correct fulfillment of the various measures and treatment will improve the rate of infection and nutritional status in these children.
