Abstract
The article explores the evolution of Spain’s transportation network, highlighting how its radial design has been shaped by both geographic factors and historical political decisions. Through historical analysis, it demonstrates that infrastructure policies have tended to reinforce pre-existing transport flows, adapting to Spain’s physical characteristics and needs. Furthermore, it examines how recent expansions and improvements in the road network have affected traffic flows, impacted territorial distribution and promoting economic development, albeit with uneven effects across regions.
