Abstract

The pandemic has accelerated the need for structural transformations in the tourism sector, highlighting two key aspects: sustainability as a central axis of management and the digital transformation of companies and destinations. The plans adopted address sustainability from concrete and comprehensive levels with practical and applicable points of view. Challenges arise, such as the regulation of digital platforms like Airbnb, and digital opportunities are explored to improve accessibility and the tourism experience. It highlights the need for Spain and Europe to climb the tourism digitalisation ladder to maintain their competitive leadership. In short, progress should be made towards a sustainable tourism model, based on knowledge and backed by innovation.
