Resumen

Partial infilling of the shell is common inbrachiopods. Depending on the hydrodynamicconditions and the width of the opening through which infilling take place (usually theforamen), biogenic cavities remain empty orbecome gradually filled with the finer material of the surrounding sediment. The mechanical stability of the preserved elements, their orientation and inclination are also factors that influence the processes of filling. When partial infilling occurs in typical symmetric forms, theshells usually show the anterior part of the shell squashed. As the posterior part of the shell is normally the heavier, and therefore closer to the substrate, it becomes filled more easily than the anterior part, which can remain less infilled or even empty
