Resumen
This article intends to serve as an introduction to Natural Language Processing and its applications today in the field of Artificial Intelligence. It is a summary of the book “Practical Natural Language Processing” by Sowmya Vajjala et al, a book written to provide real-world knowledge and examples to bridge the gap between NLP used in industry and the NLP typically taught in other resources. The article starts by examining some of the foundational concepts necessary to understand Natural Language Processing, then goes on to look at some of the primary and essential applications of these concepts, and finally examines how these applications have evolved and are used together to carry out complex tasks in Artificial Intelligence. The article also looks at the different strategies used to implement Natural Language Processing tasks and their varying complexities, benefits and drawbacks, and when to utilize one strategy over another.
