Josué J. Justel completed his Ph.D. at the High Council for Scientific Research, where he worked as a researcher at the Institute of Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies (Zaragoza, ES). He has completed postdoctoral fellowships and worked as a visiting professor at prestigious centers in Germany (Berlin, Heidelberg, Leipzig) and France (Nanterre, Paris). He has also undertaken missions in various museums keeping Near Eastern antiquities: British Museum (UK), Musée du Louvre (FR), Vorderasiatisches Museum, Hilprecht-Sammlung Vorderasiatischer Altertümer, Sammlung des Altorientalischen Instituts Leipzig (DE), Harvard Museum of the Ancient Near East, Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago Museum (USA). His area of expertise is the study of cuneiform texts from northern Iraq and Syria, especially those generated during the Late Bronze Age (ca. 1550-1150 B.C.) in Akkadian and peripheral dialects. He is particularly dedicated to studying the societies of that period, as well as editing unpublished texts from the Kirkuk region in Iraq.
