Resumen
Infection by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and its clinical manifestation, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), constitute a serious public health problem due to its health, economic, psychological and social consequences. Malnutrition is common in the advanced stages of the disease and is a condition that decreases the functional capacity of the affected organism, and, therefore, increases mortality but, at the same time, an inadequate nutritional state makes an individual more susceptible to HIV infection. For this reason, it is necessary to carry out nutrition interventions that must be early and individualized, with regular and sustained vigilance. The nutritional therapeutics available is very wide - from nutritional supplements to enteral and parenteral nutrition. Nutritional interventions carried out in HIV / AIDS patients have contributed, together with treatment with TAR, nutritional education programs and early detection and evaluation, to decrease morbidity and mortality rates associated with the HIV virus, contributing to the ODS target
