Abstract
This paper synthesizes the results obtained in the research developed with a sample of eleven community interpreters. These professionals usually suffer from anxiety, depression, among others, because of their job. Hence, an ad hoc emotional management course was designed. The effect of the intervention, combining quantitative and qualitative information, has been evaluated. A quasi-experimental design (pre-test/ post-test type) was developed for this Study, which was developed with a single group. The intervention lasted 10 sessions. A supervision was realized through two discussion groups and two in-depth interviews. The following questionnaires were used: Bar-On ICE, BCSQ-36, Interpersonal Reactivity Index. By comparing the pre-test with the post-test, statistically significant differences in most emotional intelligence factors were found. The post-test showed better results. Both the analysis of the group interviews and the individual interviews reported a clear improvement in the participants’ lives of the Study. The improvement is directly attributed to the intervention.
