Abstract
Performing a community service is one of the most effective learning methods, because it is through this activity that students find the true meaning of what they study when they apply their knowledge and skills in a solidarity practice, favouring the significant learning of students, improving their own motivation and academic results and promoting personal and social development. Through service-learning strategies (SL), teachers can be closer to achieving the true success of university education: opening the classrooms and linking the acquisition of interdisciplinary and transdiciplinaries competencies. The SL allows to create real scenarios where all the competencies can be developed: the mere theoretical knowledge does not guarantee the formation of a participative citizenship, solidarity, able to develop individual and collective projects.
