Abstract

Music Therapy is a discipline recently applied in Spain in the educational field and covers different lines of research according to the theoretical framework on which it is based and the intervention group to which it is addressed. We focused our exposition on Guided Imagination and Music (GIM) Music Therapy methodology and developed the phases of the intervention process used with a group of adolescents from Secondary Education, deepening the observation of emotional exploration through: The Listening. GIM Music Therapy enhances the teen’s emotional aware- ness, empathy, social skills and the relationship between peers, through better self- knowledge. lt is presented as a useful tool to work on the identification of one’s own and others” emotions. It offers a fundamental resource, since music, generates the stimulus necessary to motivate the imagination and to be able to explore its own emotional competence from the implicit creativity that the metaphors of the image contributes. Through the deep listening of music in a GIM session, the symbolic relationships between the narratives expressed by adolescents and the emotions they feel are analyzed. It is observed that it is from that felt emotion, from where we can intervene so that they come to the awareness of what is happening to them. In the sessions of Music Therapy GIM performed with this group of adolescents of secondary school, deepens in the analysis of the exploration of its Emotional Competence, relating and analyzing the different facts, narratives or images that express. We consider that the application of Music Therapy GIM favors the observation of the emotional exploration ofthe adolescent, offers alternatives and generates tools that can be useful to work within the educational context. It contributes a very important and significant contribution to the state of the art, in the field of emotional education,
