The society needs to raise awareness about the problem represented by the handling of human remains as hazardous waste and all the importance of these in cases of violent deaths and disappearances as forensic evidence. This communication assesses the environmental, social, economic and judicial impact of the different forms of total disposition of the corpse, and reviews the investigations of the international community in the search or alternatives of friendly technologies to the environment for conservation of hazardous anatomical waste.
