The development of Ziegler-Natta catalysts more than fifty years ago let possible to polymerize different kind of olefins giving rise to non-biodegradable plastic materials. since then, their applications have been grown and now we can find them in any field of our daily life. However, their extended use as well as their non- degradation usually produces a large amount of waste and contamination. In last decades, new biodegradable materials have emerged as an alternative to these plastics. The present work is focused on the current advances in this field. Besides, some of the latest results obtained in our research group are also reported.
