Abstract
The use of organic N (amino acids) represents energy and C savings for plants that could benefit the abiotic stress tolerance. This effect was studied in seedlings of different pine species under drought and cold stress scenarios. Results demonstrated that seedlings used amino acids as primary N source. Benefits of the organic N were expressed in different functions, such as biomass construction, reserves increase, and acclimation mechanisms, such as water use efficiency and accumulation of compatible solutes.
