Abstract

In the present research, an intervention proposal has been designed, implemented and evaluated in two classrooms of the first year of primary school in a school in the city of Guadalajara (Spain), based on the theoretical approaches of experts in reading comprehension and reading strategies; taking into account, in general, the educational reality of Spanish classrooms; and considering, in particular, the situation of teaching-learning of reading in this school. The results have served to improve the proposal and to draw up a teaching guide of the activities so that any teacher can carry them out; and they reveal that it is possible to implement a method that improves the teaching of reading in the first year of primary school by initiating pupils in the learning of strategies that activate the processes necessary for reading comprehension.
