Abstract

Physiology studies the mechanisms that keep the human body alive, while pathophysiology studies the alterations that cause the deregulation of physiological mechanisms and the loss of homeostasis. The interrelation of both subjects is essential to achieve an integrated knowledge of the functioning of the human body. The problem-based learning methodology has been implemented in teaching both subjects to achieve this purpose. Clinical cases will be solved by interrelating the acquired knowledge by working in small groups to achieve integrated learning and contribute to developing competencies such as mental agility, strategic thinking, deductive reasoning, negotiation, active listening, and creativity. In summary, PBL is a disruptive methodology that enhances the basic teaching/learning system by facilitating the acquisition of transversal competencies (growth mindset and soft skills) that align with the demands of the professional field.
